SUMMER OR SCHOOL SEMESTER
The Professional Training Program Internship at the Fulton Theatre provides an opportunity for young artists 18 or older to develop skills necessary for a professional institution, to further expand skills acquired at the university setting and beyond.
Internships are not paid. Free housing is available for summer interns only.
Intern candidates must be 18 years or older, express an interest in one or more of the internship focus areas, have knowledge of Microsoft Office, and are energetic, hardworking, team-oriented, and self-motivated.
Fulton Theatre Internships serve two types of candidates:
- College Credit Interns: Fulton Theatre can partner with universities to devise a college credit internship during the FALL, SPRING and SUMMER semesters.
- Special Project Interns: Candidates may or may not be affiliated with a university but seek to develop skills and deepen knowledge about a specific area in the theatre arts field within a professional institution.
An internship may be completed in on of two formats:
- Fall, Winter and Spring Internships: Fulton Theatre partners with universities to devise a college credit internship, or designs special projects internships for those who have limited availability and seek to deepen knowledge about specific areas in the theatre arts field. Intern schedules are flexible to accommodate school, work and personal life, and options will be discussed during the interview.
- Summer Internships: If you have an interest in the arts and love kids, consider applying to support the administrative and educational staff of our summer camps. Each Intern is assigned to a specific camp and area. Camps meet 8:30 AM to 5 PM, Monday-Friday. Summer interns must make a 6-week consecutive commitment between June 1 and August 31. Preference is given to candidates with availability for the entire summer.
INTERNSHIP FOCUS AREAS
- Education-Teaching Intern: Support the Director of Community Engagement and Fulton’s professional teaching staff in the planning, implementation, and assessment of educational programming. Collaborate with and observe professional teaching artist in all theatre arts classroom activities designed for ages 3-18. Preferred knowledge in one or more area: acting, puppetry, directing, singing, dancing, and/or playwriting. Interns can be assigned to one specific program and/or class, or can elect to support multiple programs or classes. Learn & Engage with Fulton’s Education programs. May support the administration intern with tasks. Selection will be based on the intern’s interest, goals and experience, and the Fulton needs and resources.
- Education-Tech/Design Intern (summer only): Support, collaborate and observe professional teaching artist in all design/tech classroom activities designed for ages 3-18. Work alongside the Master Electrician and Audio Engineer to design, plan and implement the designs for all camp performances. Preferred specialty in one or more area: scenic painting, theatre crafts, costume design, properties, basic electrics.
- Community Administration Intern: Assists the Director of Community Engagement with the administration of all programming. Working with the Director, the intern will create a position of tasks that will utilize skills the intern seeks to develop. Tasks may include: Manage database for students. Devise supplementary programs for the Fulton Premier Mainstage Series, including Teen Lounge, Asides and First Friday events. Develop study guides for School Day Matinee Series. Identify a promotional plan for the upcoming season. Generate promotional and supplementary materials in InDesign or ConstantContact. Identify and establish contacts and leads with leaders and key constituents in schools and the community. Prepare accessibility scripts in Open Captioning Program. Develop Sensory Friendly Program. Co-develop the High School Theatre Festival. Preferred knowledge in all Microsoft programs. Experience in In-Design and Tessitura helpful.
- House Management Intern: Work Manager to create a safe and efficient operation of the ”front of the house” during all performances and/or other activities scheduled for the theatre and lobbies through supervision of volunteer ushers, liaison with the box office, coordination with the stage manager and completion of security procedures. The House Manager coordinates the campus usher program for performances and oversees their usher training.
- Access Intern: Work with the Director of Community Engagement to provide accessibility services to deaf and hard-of-hearing, blind and visually-impaired, and Spanish speaking audiences. Ability to communicate in Spanish or ASL helpful. Knowledge of CaptionView helpful.
